A Mother On Her Nest
Guest post by Dan Weisz
A neighbor told me about a hummingbird nest in his back yard. This is a female Broad-billed Hummingbird- see the orange on the bottom of her bill? This shot was taken a few evenings ago.
The next morning, I arrived around 7:05. She was off the nest and returned about 8-10 minutes later. After buzzing around to check me out, she settled back into her nest and her duties. The baby on the right was fed first, and then the one on the left.
Going deep. You can see how red/orange the underside of the mother's bill is and also see how “broad” the bill is.
Both young are fed and settled down.
And mom begins to warm them up again.
I hope to have more photos as the babies begin to grow.
